Background:
Miyaki grew up in Feudal Okinawa, Japan, and got acquainted with sword fighting. His sensei began to teach Miyaki kenjutsu when he was 6, and instilled one thought into his brain:

"No matter the circumstances, never kill your opponent, for this martial art was not created for assasination."

By the age of 11, Miyaki was a Kenjutsu master, now training with his very own katana., Juujika. (The katana was originally just a thin, sharp katana.)

The next day, Miyaki found his sensei, half-dead, assaulted in cold blood. As his father figure was recovering, Miyaki tracked down his attacker and, forgetting his sensei's words, slaughtered the man. After recovering, his sensei confronted him, and they began to fight.

Miyaki was no match for him. His blade was broken, his eye was cut, his chest was slashed, and his arms and legs were rendered useless. Before leaving him, Miyaki's sensei left him one thing - his black stainless steel Nodaichi, KUROI.

by 15, Miyaki was fully healed, though his sensei left scars not only on his body, but in his mind. The fact that he was spared from death was a constant reminer of his sensei's words. He traveled the world, being taught in the arts of Taijutsu, Iaido, and projectile weaponry.

He reforged his blade, Juujika, into the curved blade we see today. Kai, as he is now called (he left his ancestry back in Okinawa), spends most of his time polishing KUROI, in memory of his former sensei.
